This month we are backing a petition with YMCAs across England & Wales to urge the Government to do more to help young people living in supported housing be able to move on to independent living.
Too often young people are becoming become trapped, unable to save for a deposit, concerned about the cost and instability of private renting and the prospect of facing many months on waiting lists for social housing.
These are young people who are trying to start their lives but are unable to take that next step.COVID-19 has only made things worse, with jobs become more insecurity and any savings that have been made having to be used for day to day living.
We are now calling for more support to help young people overcome these barriers and allow them to move out of the system.
