Stack of YMCA bespoke nursery curriculums

18 April 2023

YMCA Black Country Nurseries have developed a unique nursery curriculum that supports the learning of children from 0-5 years old.

Our nurseries provide early years education to over 400 children across the Black Country. We believe every child should have the support they need to develop and lead fulfilling lives.
Our bespoke curriculum enables each YMCA setting to put this into practice through creating additional play and educational opportunities, designed specifically to develop children in the locality to thrive

In recognition of our work to ensure every child has the best chance to reach their full potential, our Executive Head of Nurseries and Quality, Mel Braden, has been invited to present the work and theory behind the curriculum to strategic YMCA leaders from the four nations of the UK.

Mel said, “I’m extremely proud to have this opportunity to share our curriculum. A lot of hard work and dedication went into building the content which has our ethos and values flowing through each focus for learning. It was a real team effort with myself and my nursery team so to have the honour of sharing it with other YMCAs is quite the privilege.”

Our nursery curriculum has been built in line with EYFS framework, specifically to ignite children’s thirst for learning, to ensure that children have the chance to access challenging, playful opportunities across both the prime and specific areas of learning.

Chief Executive, Steve Bavington said, “YMCA’s Christian values are woven throughout the curriculum, including through sharing bible stories, songs and celebrating Christian festivals such as Christmas, Easter and Harvest.

“This holds true to YMCA’s desire to be inclusive by acknowledging, sharing and learning about the cultures, faith festivals and beliefs of all the children in our care. Operating in this way gives children the best opportunity to develop to their full potential in body, mind and spirit enabling them to belong, contribute and thrive.”

We have funded childcare spaces available across all our nurseries and a range of job opportunities starting from entry level apprenticeships to Nursery Manager roles.
