Y’s Girls Mentoring is a community led mentoring initiative facilitated by YMCA Black Country Group as part of our health and wellbeing offer, throughout the Black Country. The focus of the programme is for Volunteer Mentors to work with girls to inspire them and to support them to thrive.

The Y’s Girls mentoring programme matches girls and young women aged 9–14 years old with a trained volunteer mentor from their community. Our Programme Manager works closely with the young person and their family to establish the best volunteer mentor match.

The volunteer mentor will spend up to two hours per week with the young person, doing fun activities that the young person is interested in. Support lasts for up to 12 months and provides girls in the Black Country with the opportunity to overcome some of the challenges they face, which might include building emotional resilience, building better relationships, improving school attendance, better community connections and reducing exposure to crime and anti social behaviour.
