Our Day Nursery & Family Centre in West Bromwich which was opened in September 2011, has been awarded a prestigious design award at the Celebrating Construction Awards 2012 at the ICC in Birmingham.

The £1m building on the YMCA site in Carters Green, was designed by Birmingham-based architects Bryant Priest Newman, and built by Keepmoat. The centre was nominated by Sandwell Council as an example of best practice in developing a community facility.

YMCA Black Country Group and construction company Keepmoat collected the winning silverware for the Community Category of 2012 Built-in Quality Award ceremony held in Birmingham.

Celebrating Construction 2012 is a showcase and awards ceremony that recognises the professionalism, excellence and innovation that lies at the heart of the West Midlands’ construction community.

Neil Baxter, Regional MD at Keepmoat said: “We are delighted to have collected this award, as it truly reflects all the hard work that went into making this project work from every angle. This shows that great design, combined with a supportive client, and an exceptionally committed construction team, really does produce quality results.”

Steve Clay, CEO of YMCA Back Country said: “It’s great that the team have received this recognition for the hard work which went into producing a brilliant new day nursery and family centre for the people of Sandwell. From the outset, we were focused on producing a high-quality finish whilst keeping to a very tight budget. Thankfully Keepmoat helped us achieve both aims.”

Larry Priest, Director at Bryant Priest Newman Architects said: “It is a great honour to have worked on this project. There is a real commitment from the staff and Trustees of the charity to consult with the community and with young people so that they get the right result for local people. This meant that from the outset the YMCA were clear about what they needed from the building which has gained the recognition it deserves.”
