YMCA Black Country Group are delighted to announce the first home delivery of a baby within one of the housing projects in its 125 year history.

YMCA Open Door resident, Jemma gave birth to Brendan-Lee on 3rd June, weighing 8lbs 7oz with the help of YMCA Open Door Worker and Host, Kaye Lander who was not only present at the birth but also delivered the new born!

Jemma, who came to the YMCA after she had to leave her previous accommodation said: “When I moved in with Kaye, I had no idea I was pregnant so finding this out was a shock! Kaye and my support worker Jag have been really supportive during my pregnancy – taking me to hospital appointments and helping me to get ready for when the baby arrived.

“I plan to stay with Kaye whilst I learn how to be a mum, then I will move into my own place; it’s thanks to Kaye that I’m able to do this. Kaye has gone above and beyond the role of a Host and I’m so grateful that she was there for me every step of the way.”
