Two Dudley Councillors will be spending Christmas Eve sleeping rough to raise awareness of youth homelessness in Dudley and money for YMCA Black Country Group!

As part of a campaign by Dudley Council to back YMCA in recruiting Host families in Dudley, Councillors Richard Body and Pete Lowe will sleep rough on Christmas Eve, with nothing but a couple of cardboard boxes for shelter, a blanket and fire to keep warm.

The pair will spend one night on the streets to gain an insight into what it’s like for homeless young people who are forced to sleep rough every night.

Councillor Body felt compelled to get involved with YMCA after hearing about the Open Door project: “I have recently become a Host for YMCA, offering my spare room to a homeless teenager in need with the hope that I can inspire them and give them a new start.”

Richard and Peter are in for a tough night, but will be waking up on the streets on Christmas morning and returning home to their warm houses, loving families and roast dinners. But the sad truth is that hundreds of people across the country will wake up with nowhere to go and no idea where there next meal is coming from. We’re so pleased they have chosen to support us in our work with vulnerable young people, helping them to build a better future.

Local people are invited to join Pete & Richard for the start of the event, where they will be offering mince pies, carols and light entertainment before bedding down for the night.
