In the heart of Gornal, there is a truly remarkable place that Senior Mentor with the YMCA Gateway to Achieve Project, Jay Pyatt,  has been able to support over the past 18 months – Hope House, a place of collaboration, compassion, and community spirit that has touched the lives of many. Jay is now to bid a fond farewell to Hope House, which he has found to be a remarkable chapter in his life, filled with dedication and joy which has made a lasting positive impact in the community.

YMCA’s Jo Goldie and Louise Kumar saw the great potential of a unity between Hope House and the YMCA and allowed Jay to donate each Monday morning to support their cause.

Maggie Harris, the Community Lead for Springs Church and Hope House, said, “Jay has been such an integral part of our team, and we will all miss him immensely. He has fitted in so well, giving 110% in all he has done. Nothing has been too much for him, and his willing and can-do attitude has been a dream.”

But it’s not just his work ethic that has left a lasting impact. Maggie continued, “His kindness, compassion, and genuine heart to see people’s lives get better has fitted in so well with our ethos here, and his added knowledge and skill regarding the job sector, access to training, and IT has been of great value.”

Jay wanted to express his deep gratitude. “I want everyone at Hope House to know that it has been my honour and pleasure to serve and work alongside some incredible and fantastic people”

Hope House, serving as the Community Headquarters of Springs Church Gornal, has been a haven of support and care for the local community. Their doors are open every Monday and Tuesday, offering free tea, coffee, cake, and a welcoming space for anyone who needs it. From craft groups and financial assistance to free school uniforms and information services, Hope House has been a beacon of hope and solidarity.

The collaboration between YMCA Gateway to Achieve Project and Hope House, has been a journey of compassion and community building. It exemplifies the power of coming together for a common cause, demonstrating how organisations with shared values can make a profound difference in their communities.
