New YMCA Black Country Group CEO Appointed

8 December 2022

YMCA Black Country Group are delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Bavington for our next Chief Executive Officer.

Following a robust appointment process and a lot of prayer, Trustees chose Steve from a strong field of candidates as the person to lead us into the next phase of our exciting work and progression.

Steve is no stranger to YMCA and feels a very strong calling by God to return to offer his servant-hearted leadership. Following a successful career in sales, he started working for West Bromwich & District YMCA as Fundraising & Marketing Manager in 2006. After a pivotal 7 years in our YMCA’s history, which included the creation of YMCA BCG as we know it, he moved across to Birmingham to run ChaplaincyPlus, a Christian charity serving the business community. He is married to Jo, and they have three adult children and a granddaughter. In his spare time, he plays hockey for West Bromwich Hockey Club.

Steve takes up his leadership role on 6th March 2023; with anticipation he commented, “I’m really excited about returning to YMCA in the Black Country and being a part of the life changing work for the communities they serve; I can’t wait to get started.” Trustees, staff and volunteers are looking forward to welcoming Steve back to YMCA in this new role.
