This week’s devotional comes from Jo Goldie (CO, Programmes) as she shares her thoughts about what our value of HOPE means to her.
‘I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.’
Romans 15:13
I love the visual image that this scripture gives. It reminds me of the champagne pyramids where you pour into the top glass and then it cascades filling all of glasses on the row below and so on and so on. It reminds me also to not be selfish with the hope God gives me – He is not stingy in giving me just enough, there is an abundance of hope and it is my responsibility to ensure I am generous to share what He generously gives me.
This is so relevant when I look at the work we do in YMCA – we should instil hope in all of the people we work with, whether colleagues, service users, young people and even other professionals. The hope that is given to me should flow freely to ignite sparks of hope in everyone with whom I interact.
Jesus is the ultimate giver of hope and is so generous in gifting it to us that it inspires me to be generous with my hope to others.
Point to ponder: Where can you ignite sparks of hope with people today?
