Deep Rooted Trust

Deep Rooted Trust

This week’s devotional comes from Jo Goldie, CO (Programmes), as she shares her thoughts about what our value INSPIRE means to her.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
      whose trust is the LORD.
He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
      for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8

Trust is a very important personal value to me. I am naturally an anxious person and often assess the issues I can see with a situation before I consider the benefits – it’s a natural inclination for me. This scripture reminds me that even when a situation seems dire, my source of strength and peace cannot be shaken because as I have placed my trust in God.

Over the years, just like the tree planted by streams of water in this scripture, my roots have grown deep and are always close to the One who brings me refreshment. So when the going gets tough, I have learned to turn to God and He refreshes my soul – I can always trust Him.

At YMCA we go through various different seasons. Some are seasons of abundance – when the funds are flowing in and the new progammes are mobilizing. Others are seasons where it’s tough and we may be downsizing or getting fewer positive decisions from funders.  In every season, I am reminded that my roots are deep and that my trust in God will refresh my soul.

Jesus is the source of my peace and in Whom I place my trust.  The Bible reminds me that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. So He remains steadfast and trustworthy in every season we face. I find this deeply comforting, both personally and professionally and I hope this speaks to you too.

Point to ponder: In what do you place your trust today?
