INPIRED NOT DRIVEN

INPIRED NOT DRIVEN

This week’s devotional comes from our CEO Steve Bavington as he shares his thoughts about what our value of ‘INSPIRE’ means to him.

“My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” (Jesus)
John 10:10

Our value of INSPIRE is how I feel when I experience something excellent or visionary. It could be an exceptional painting, a piece of writing, a building, a sunset, an amazing person, or a million other things. It could be a moment in time when I come to a fresh realisation of what I could be capable of.

When I’m inspired, I want to reach for more than I thought possible — not because I have to, but because I can. I’ve learnt to keep my senses alive to things, people and situations that may inspire me.

I see this value at work in our programmes’ teams – the youth workers, gym staff or mentors. Their interactions with young people looking for direction help to inspire them to go for more and say yes to new opportunities to develop.

My ultimate example of an inspiring, unselfish and literally sacrificial life is Jesus, who gave up everything for humanity — even for me and you. Jesus inspires rather than drives. He invites people into a fuller way of living, rather than forcing change through pressure or fear. The very thought of Him encourages me to reach for more love, kindness and peace.

Point to ponder: Have a think about what or who has inspired you to reach for more.
