YMCA’s commitment to diversity and inclusion recognised through recertification of ISO standard.

YMCA Black Country Group has once again been officially recognised as a leading organisation for diversity and inclusion, following a successful recertification of the internationally renowned ISO 30415: Human Resource Management – Diversity and Inclusion standard.

This recertification, valid for another three years, confirms that YMCA Black Country continues to meet rigorous global benchmarks in how it supports equality, builds inclusive workplace practices and promotes a sense of belonging among staff and service users.

“This achievement is far more than a compliance milestone,” said Steve Bavington, CEO of YMCA Black Country Group. “It’s a reflection of the everyday behaviours, values, and commitment shown by our teams across the region..”

The assessment, led by D&I expert John Mulholland, included in-depth reviews of policy, culture, leadership, and staff engagement. Team members from across the organisation participated in interviews and focus groups, offering insight into the lived experience of YMCA’s inclusive ethos in action. John Mulholland commented: “YMCA Black Country is a well-managed, well-led organisation providing high-quality services. As a result, staff are highly motivated and satisfied in their roles. Organisational values are role-modelled from the top and deeply embedded in everyday practice. YMCA Black Country is an excellent advocate for equality, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, and this is clearly evidenced by its continued ISO 30415 certification.”

The standard recognises organisations that embed inclusive practices not just in HR policies but in day-to-day interactions, leadership, and decision-making. YMCA Black Country was commended for its growth, investment in staff development, and projects such as its digital inclusion work in Walsall, ensuring more people across the region can access opportunities and support. Steve added: “We’re proud of this result, but we’re even more excited about what comes next. As we continue to grow and diversify, our focus remains on building a workplace and a community where everyone feels valued, can contribute fully, and thrive.”

This milestone serves as a reminder that equality, diversity, and inclusion are not one-off goals, but continuous commitments. YMCA Black Country looks forward to the next chapter of this journey, striving to ensure that its values are reflected in every service, every team, and every individual they support.
