Amaani’s Story

Amaani’s Story

Amaani joined the Job Zone programme at YMCA West Bromwich for six months, engaging in both group employability sessions and tailored 1:1 support. The programme was designed to build confidence, develop practical job-search skills, and provide personalised guidance towards sustainable employment.

Through group sessions, Amaani developed key employability skills, including understanding the job market, exploring strengths, and building confidence in a supportive peer environment. Alongside this, Sonia Aftab provided regular one-to-one support, allowing Amaani to receive personalised guidance tailored to her individual needs and career goals.

During the programme, YMCA’s Progression Mentor, Sonia supported Amaani with:

  • Completing job applications
  • Regularly sourcing and sharing suitable job opportunities
  • Building confidence and self-belief
  • Using AI tools to assist with job searching and applications
  • Developing and refining her CV and cover letters

In preparation for job interviews, mock interviews were carried out, giving Amaani the opportunity to practise answering questions, build interview confidence, and receive constructive feedback. This support was specifically tailored to prepare her for an interview opportunity she later secured.

As a result of the Job Zone, Amaani has successfully secured a Help Desk role with the NHS. Congratulations Amaani on your new job – all the hard work paid off!
