YMCA Open Door Project as and when required | Various Locations throughout the Black Country
YMCA Open Door would like to offer two very exciting work experience/volunteering opportunities for students or graduates who are studying/have studied degrees in journalism and multimedia. The Open Door team provides a valuable service for young people who would otherwise be homeless by placing them with host families. As part of our strategy to recruit more hosts, we would like to offer the following:
1- The opportunity for a journalism student to volunteer with the YMCA one day per week to write press releases/success stories about hosts and service users. Although all work would need to be approved by the YMCA, the successful applicant would have their work credited in the publication of any online articles and any other printed media. Any published work will also be useful for the author’s own portfolio.
2- The opportunity for a student in a multimedia related discipline to volunteer their time to record footage of Supported Lodgings Hosts and young people talk about their experiences of Supported Lodgings. This can be used as part of their own portfolio and would also be used as part of the YMCA’s recruitment of hosts.
With both positions, the YMCA (BCG) is looking for people who would be committed and who demonstrate a high quality standard of verbal and written communication. Volunteers will be reimbursed for travel and out of pocket expenses as agreed by the YMCA (BCG).
The successful applicant must be able to respect the Christian Ethos of the YMCA BCG and uphold its values. A standard DBS will be required before taking up the role.
