SLEEP EASY 17 IS NOW OPEN!
Are you up for the challenge?
Join us on Friday 3 March 2017 as we sleep rough for one night to raise funds and awareness of youth homeless. Register now for just £10!
Sleep Easy is a YMCA fundraising initiative, raising money to help change the lives of vulnerable young people. Since the event began in 2010, over £1m has been raised by hundreds of people who chose to sleep rough for just one night.
Each year we ask individuals, teams from local companies, groups of friends and students to sign up, join in and help raise awareness of what is a growing issue in the Black Country; youth homelessness. This year alone our Emergency Nightstop service has provided more than 1500 beds, and has had to turn young people away due to the increase in referrals.
Whilst Sleep Easy is a challenging and eye opening experience, we are sure you will appreciate just how tough this is for young people facing the prospect of sleeping rough night after night in freezing conditions and in fear of their own safety. Together we can make a difference.
When: Friday 3 March 2017,
Where: University of Wolverhampton
How do I register to take part?
You will be provided with two cardboard boxes, and you are welcome to bring sleeping bags and blankets with you. Hot drinks and food are also provided throughout the evening. We will be selling official Sleep Easy hoodies and hats, which will help keep you toasty, and raise money at the same time! There will be plenty of fun activities to keep you occupied too. Have a go at some Zumba, join in with some team games, have a sing around the fire, or just listen to the stories of the people you are there to help. Other than that, all you need to bring is yourself and wear lots of layers!
We know that for some it’s not possible to sleep out, but there are other ways to be involved!
A really easy way for kids to get involved is for them to give up their comfy bed for a night and sleep on the sofa. You can take this as far as you want – maybe they’ll give up their favourite tea in favour of a jacket potato instead? Maybe they’ll sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor, or even in a tent in the garden?
Your money goes directly to YMCA’s Moving Forward Fund, which enables the vulnerable young people we work with to move on in their lives by providing not only the practical things that make a house a home, but also access to employment and training opportunities, and even help to move on emotionally. It is the charity’s biggest fundraising event, and we heavily rely on the funds raised to provide our service.
If you think that you, or a group of your friends or colleagues could be a part of this inspiring event to help end youth homelessness across Wolverhampton and the Black Country, please get in touch – email email@example.com, or call 01902 371563
Our thanks to the many organisations who support us in putting on this event:
University of Wolverhampton for allowing us the space to do Sleep Easy in.
CBS Packaging Group for donating the boxes for us to sleep in.
Blakemore Foundation who have paid for coffee, milk, chocolate, bin bags and gloves.
L&S Middleton Cash and Carry for giving us all the containers we need for food.
Warburton’s for donating 10 loaves of bread for breakfast.
Nando’s who have donated lots of sauces.
Pallet Track who have donated the firewood for our fire bins.
Open Door Project who have donated all the tea we could possibly drink.
Duncombes Butchers, Catsill who have very kindly given us chicken and sausages to keep us fed and happy.
We owe all of these businesses so much thanks, because their donations allow us to put on Sleep Easy practically for free! Because of the generosity of these companies & venues, every single penny that is raised by Sleep Easy participants goes directly to the young people we work with.
